OK, so the Golf GTI may not be the most exciting looking hatch out there, but there's no questioning its performance. Exciting for sure. Need proof? VW has just released the official video of its record-breaking run at Nürburgring Nordschleife.
The video shows just what a well-tuned machine and ace driver can do. When you look at some of the entry speeds that the Golf enters corners at, it appears to defy the laws of physics. Lucky they're using a professional driver - with me driving I would have hit the Armco at half the speed.
If you're thinking the Golf GTI Clubsport S is impressive, Volkswagen will be bringing in a slightly tamed down version into Australia. Volkswagen is going to make 500 units available, badged the Golf GTI 40 Years edition. Powered by a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol, with intercooler, inline four-cylinder engine putting out a 195kW and 380Nm of torque, the special edition Golf features an over boost feature that ramps up power to 213kW for ten-second bursts. For around $50K on road, that's a lot of bang for your buck. If you're interested, you'd better put your order in now, you may score one if they haven't sold out already.
