Talk about a cat amongst the pigeons, or in this case a hawk. The private school run will never be the same as the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk has Porsche Cayenne's ducking for cover with what could be the world's most powerful SUV.
At 527kW/874Nm (707bhp in the old money) the 2018 Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk delivers more power than a Ferrari 488 GTB supercar!
The good news is the manic SUV is said to be heading Downunder!
Basically what we have is the Doge Challenger Hellcat drivetrain transplanted into a Jeep Grand Cherokee to become the Trackhawk edition. It's the sort of thing Dr Frankenstein would do if he were into cars. Unless your pulse has almost stopped, 707bhp is enough to get any car nerd excited.
While the Trackhawk punches out supercar numbers, it also produces supercar acceleration, not something you expect from a two-tonne plus behemoth. The 6.2 litre supercharged Hemi V8 provides enough twist to see the 0 to 100km/h dash off in a ludicrous 3.6 seconds, the standing 400 metres dusted in 11.6 seconds and if you're game, it will cruise to a top whack of 290km/h.
Its ability to put the power down so efficiently is said to be a result of the Quadra-Trac all-wheel drive system and eight-speed automatic transmission coupled to a rear limited-slip differential. It also has a significant paw-print, fitted with 295/45/45 ZR20 20" alloy wheels and rubber all round.
If the performance claims hold true, the Jeep Grand Cherokee Trackhawk will be the fastest conventionally powered SUV in the world.
It's expected to land in Aus for around $160K AUD which makes it a performance SUV bargain, especially when considered along with the likes of the Porsche Cayenne Turbo S SUV
